Solid Waste Management - Transfer Stations and Recycling Facilities

CMA Engineers has designed and administered the construction of numerous municipal solid waste transfer stations and recycling facilities, in a full range of sizes from those serving small communities of 1,000 to those serving regions with significant populations.

The keys to transfer station designs are site layouts and waste delivery arrangements which allow for moving the traffic through efficiently during peak Saturday hours, and waste storage and compaction capability which allow vehicles to be loaded quickly and to the maximum extent within applicable road limits to minimize costs.

Recycling facilities are complex in terms of design. There are numerous different materials being delivered, stored, processed, stored and shipped in various different ways, and as soon as the facility begins operating, many of those things change, and keep changing over time. Facility flexibility in terms of delivery, storage, processing and shipping is a key criterion.
